Once Blind: The Life of John Newton

Once Blind: The Life of John Newton

Kay Marshall Strom. Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas: Authentic Publishers, 2008. 256 pp. (Paperback).

Quite interestingly, this author, in a very real sense, compares modern conditions of commercial sex and bonded laborers to the slave trade, which was fought so bravely by John Newton after his conversion 200 years ago.

Readers will be deeply disturbed, and appropriately so, to learn that currently, women under 18 are forced into sex practices and child labor, which is especially rampant in Eastern Europe, India, Sudan and Nepal.

Strom leaves us with this sobering thought: "Bringing awareness to modern-day slavery is my passion."
