Open Doors released its annual list of the worst countries for Christian persecution globally Jan. 8.
At the top of the list, for the 12th year in a row, is North Korea. It is ranked as the single most anti-Christian country in the world, according to the report.
Between 50,000 and 70,000 Christians live in the country’s concentration camps, labor camps, prisons and prison camps, according to news reports.
Open Doors USA President and CEO David Curry told Christian Today that the issue of persecution was routinely ignored by the international community despite the fact that “Christians are the largest persecuted minority in the world.”
The other countries on the 2014 World Watch List are (in order of rank): Somalia, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Maldives, Pakistan, Iran, Yemen, Sudan, Euritrea, Libya, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Qatar, Turkmenistan, Laos, Egypt, Myanmar, Brunei, Colombia, Jordan (all under the extreme persecution category), Oman (under the severe persecution category), India, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Bhutan, Algeria, Mali, Palestinian Territories, United Arab Emirates, Mauritania, China, Kuwait, Kazakhastan, Malaysia, Bahrain, Comoros, Kenya, Morocco, Tajikistan, Djibouti, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Tanzania and Niger (under the moderate persecution category).
