Pastor Jack Williamson said the crowd that showed up for Brooklyn Baptist Church’s 200th anniversary celebration Oct. 3 was “overwhelming.”
“We usually run 12 on Sundays but had around 200 people that day,” he said.
During the special service, Joey Rodgers, director of missions for Conecuh Baptist Association, led the music, and his wife, Jeri, played the piano. The Rodgers family — Joey and Jeri plus their children, Drayton and Emily — provided special music, as did Marcia Frazier and Karen Sterling.
The bicentennial committee displayed church memorabilia and photos and a bicentennial brochure featuring a map of the old Brooklyn community and historical sketches. The committee also erected a historical marker during the celebration.
Dalton Campbell of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission presented the church with a certificate, and former Conecuh Association DOM Tommy White prayed. Former pastor Bryan Abel also gave the invocation and shared memories of his time at Brooklyn Baptist.
