Forefront
Morningstar
There’s no way in this world that anyone can deny the fact that the Palmetto State Quartet is one of the hottest groups on the road today. Likewise, there’s no way to deny the fact that if Forefront is any indication of things to come from this quartet, they always will be one of the hottest groups on the road.
It’s going to take a whole herd of bulldozers to stop the momentum Brion Carter, Kerry Beatty, Tony Peace, Jeff Pearles and Jerry Kelso have going right now.
“May I Present Jesus To you” both opens and closes this recording and PSQ’s harmony on this simple worshipful time is absolutely fabulous. From there, the quartet covers a wide variety of songs and style, never straying from their four-part roots.
There are a number of songs that are absolutely quartet singing at its best.
There’s also a some tremendous heart-felt ballads found on Forefront, and if these songs don’t stir your heart, brother, you’ve got a problem.
Finally, no discussion about this recording would be complete without mentioning “Good Morning.” Let’s just say that this is the Palmetto State Quartet’s greatest song — and they’re going to have to work terribly hard to top it and this recording. Enough said.
