Philadelphia Baptist celebrates 175 years

In a service with standing room only, Philadelphia Baptist Church, Peterman, commemorated its 175th anniversary Oct. 11.

Approximately 200 participants gathered for the morning service in which former pastor Wayne McMillian brought the message and David Hutcheson led worship. Hutcheson also sang special music as did a women’s ensemble from Philadelphia Baptist.

Lonette Berg, executive director of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, made a presentation. Longtime deacons Gene Ramer and Willard Tuberville were honored with plaques for their years of service.

Albums with historic photos were on display and a watercolor painting of Philadelphia Baptist was gifted to the church by the five-person homecoming committee, which also provided history packets for participants.

After a fellowship lunch The Hicks Family, a southern gospel group from Monroe County, provided special music. Jeff Kirchharr is pastor.
