When I attended revival services recently at Union Grove Baptist Church and heard Dr. Bill Day of Alabama Citizens Action Program speak on the need for us as Christians to set aside a special time and place to pray specifically for our nation and the moral conditions of our country, I was convicted that we are the reason we’re not seeing the United States recover from the problems we’re in.
God has given us the solution in His Word in 2 Chronicles 7:14. He has told us to humble ourselves, pray and seek His face and turn from our wicked ways; then He promises He will hear from heaven, forgive our sins and heal our land. If we would but claim this promise by faith and confess our sins collectively and individually and turn from them (and) seek His face, God will hear from heaven and will heal our land. God never goes back on His Word.
I would challenge us as Southern Baptists to set aside one day each week to pray for our nation. Not everyone in church will come, but those who are looking for something concrete they can do to reclaim our nation will come.
What about setting aside a lunchtime or dinnertime where we fast and pray together? We meet and call on the wonderful goodness and promises of God, our Father, and stand back and watch Him work. God’s Word says He will heal our land. The “if” depends on us.
