The Seed Finally Grew
WindRidge Music Group
Randy Swift is a stylist and a storyteller. Once you hear him sing, you’ll be able to pick him out of a crowd of a hundred singers, just like you did with Vestal and Jake.
Randy has a very country approach to his vocal delivery. For example, one-syllable words become two — much like George Jones. His vocal tones lean more toward bluegrass, though he’s never recorded a bluegrass-gospel project — until now.
At the prodding of his dobro-playing virtuoso son, Joshua Swift, Randy has decided to give bluegrass-gospel a try. Randy, take your coat off and stay awhile.
Randy wrote eight of the 10 songs on this project, and seven of the eight are story songs. Preachers and Sunday School teachers, you should make special note of this project as you’ll be able to craft some great messages from story songs like “The Seed Finally Grew,” “You Were Right,” “The Chiseler,” “Time,” “Anywhere” and others.
Don’t miss Randy’s version of “Hold to God’s Unchanging Hand.” You will hit the replay button a lot.
The story songs and singing aren’t the only things that make this a fine recording. The musicianship is top notch, led by Joshua Swift on dobro and Josh Miller on banjo.
Rounding out the band are Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder band members — Mark Fain on acoustic bass, Cody Kilby on guitar and banjo and Andy Leftwich on fiddle and mandolin.
