Christian author and poet Travis Jenkins has written a new volume of poetry that captures a broad range of topics and observations about faith and life.
In “Nuggets of Gold to Soothe Your Soul,” Jenkins provides pithy reflections on daily living, family, Christian faith, challenges, trials and biblical wisdom. His poetry isn’t written in an elitist or academic fashion, but in a warm and understandable style.

Jenkins, who makes his home in Mobile, has a rich background in collegiate sports (softball and baseball) and journalism. He studied at the University of Mississippi and Union University in Tennessee, and writes poetry that reflects his strong Christian faith without pretense or ambiguity.
‘Mix of wisdom and humor’
This work has a devotional feel with a mix of wisdom and humor. He notes in one poem, “ … you’ll never conquer fear, my friend, unless you admit that you’re afraid.”
He writes about spiritual difficulties facing our nation with the heart of a patriot. “It feels wrong to fight for rights where freedom had its birth, yet this is the state of our nation … it’s time to prove what your freedom’s worth.”
‘Inspiring and stirring’
Some of the poems address hypocrisy in the church (“Misguided Religion”), and he gives a memorable tribute to just about every cliché you’ve ever heard in “The Cliché Parade.” Personally, I really appreciated his poem on coffee.
Jenkins can be inspiring (“Don’t Be a Coward”) and stirring as he lists things that will be “no more” once we get to Heaven.
Poetry has a way of communicating that can touch the heart in a unique way and Jenkins is to be commended for pouring out his heart in these pages.
