The seventh annual Samford Hymn Sing, formerly known as the Old Song Sing-Along, will take place the afternoon of Sept. 26 in Reid Chapel beginning at 2 p.m., and is open to the public.
Returning as co-directors of the event this year are Samford’s school of the arts Dean Joseph Hopkins and his wife, Suzanne. Joining them will be the school’s newest faculty member, Eric Mathis, who teaches church music and worship leadership.
The program consists primarily of congregational singing of the favorite hymns and gospel songs of yesteryear as selected by the audience. It also features special gospel and hymn selections presented by the Hopkinses and Mathis.
Attendees, especially groups such as a Sunday School class or senior adult department, are invited to enjoy a buffet lunch in the University Dining Hall of the Beeson Student Center before walking over to Reid Chapel for the Hymn Sing.
