Samford’s Philip Poole named RCCongress coordinator

Philip Poole, recently retired executive director of university communication at Samford University in Birmingham, has been named coordinator of the next Religion Communication Congress (RCCongress), a once-a-decade international gathering of professional religion communicators from a wide range of faith traditions.

“Philip’s background in and commitment to interfaith communication and initiatives, his involvement with previous congresses, his leadership in multiple organizations and his administrative skills all resonated with those of us tasked with enlisting a coordinator,” said Shirley Struchen, executive director of Religion Communicators Council (RCC).

Poole served as program co-chair for RCCongress 2000 and was on the steering committee for RCCongress 2010. He has served as national president for two religion communications organizations — RCC and Baptist Communicators Association. Poole was recently elected into the Public Relations Society of America’s College of Fellows which honors practitioners and educators who have left a significant footprint on the public relations profession.
