On the morning of Sept. 27, the old church bell rang at Saragossa First Baptist Church, Nauvoo, as they celebrated their 125th anniversary.
“Everything was meaningful and tied together so well,” said church member Ann Trimm. “There was a sense of comfort, peace and excitement. It was amazing.”
As part of the special service, Pastor Shawn Morgan preached on the homecoming of the prodigal son, and minister of music Curt Cagle led the congregation in singing hymns from every 25-year period during the history of the church.
Those present also enjoyed displays of historical photos created by Joyce Shumate, as well as a book compiled by the homecoming committee. David Nelson, a commissioner for the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented a certificate.
