Preaching, music and encouragement to share Christ’s love will be highlighted at the annual Senior Adult Evangelism Conference May 7 at Shades Mountain Baptist Church, Vestavia Hills, in Birmingham Baptist Association.
Sponsored by the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM), the times for the conference will be 9–11 a.m. and 1–3 p.m. The theme will be Sharing the Story of Jesus, featuring the following speakers:
– Robert Smith Jr., professor of Christian preaching, Beeson Divinity School, Birmingham,
– Jimmy Jackson, senior pastor, Whitesburg Baptist Church, Huntsville, in Madison Baptist Association, and
– Charles Lowery, motivational speaker and president and CEO of the Lowery Institute for Excellence, Lindale, Texas.
An essential part of the event will be music led by Bob Smith, an evangelist from Huntsville.
Eileen Wright, an associate in the discipleship and family ministries office at the SBOM, expressed optimism about the conference.
“This year’s conference will jump-start anyone’s spirit to be a witness for Christ,” she said. “Our speakers will encourage and challenge everyone who attends. They will show that senior adults are not just sitting on the premises but are ‘standing on the promises’ of God.
“My prayer is that Alabama Baptists will make an intentional effort to invite as part of their group people who do not know Christ,” Wright said. “I hope everyone will begin praying now that God will use this conference to further His Kingdom.”
Registration is not needed. The event is free and open to the public.
“It’s because of Alabama Baptists’ generous gifts through the Cooperative Program that we can provide this strategic event … as a time of encouraging seniors to share a witness with others,” Rick Lance, SBOM executive director, explained.
“All three preachers will dynamically emphasize the need for each Christian to be intentionally evangelistic for Christ.”
