Shocked

Shocked

My name is John Love and I am an Assemblies of God minister from Talladega. I am writing to inform you about an incident that occurred on Nov. 11 during a broadcast on Alabama Public Television. I was watching APT with my 6-year-old son Caleb. We were watching a program titled “American Experience,” which was about letters American servicemen had written home to family and friends through the years. During the program the phrase “God Da____” was used several times without warning. I was deeply offended by the profanity and I am shocked that APT has sunk to such a low level of decency. I expect vulgar language from cable television and for that reason, I do not have cable in my home. Over the past few years the major networks have become more brazen in allowing certain profanity to be uttered on their programs as well, but APT is supposed to be a television station that we can watch with the whole family without fear of being bombarded with profanity.

I have written a letter to APT asking them to remove all profanity from their programming. I have also written letters to the FCC, to editors of every major newspaper in Alabama and to my state and national representatives asking them to join me in insisting that APT remove all profanity from its programming. APT bills itself as “Television Worth Watching.” I believe that if enough concerned viewers write letters, it might truly live up to its slogan.
