Commitment is one of Bobbie Adams’ attributes. “I’ve always believed if you take a job you should stick with it and do the best you can,” said the 81-year-old Clanton woman. During her senior year in high school she became church clerk and has continued that work for 64 years. Also for 50 years she was a children’s Sunday School teacher. In addition to being church clerk she teaches a ladies’ Sunday School class and sings in the choir. She also is known for being a caregiver.

Q: What influences in your life pointed you to Christ at the beginning of your faith journey?

A: My Christian family. My mom and dad always carried us to church. They were an active part of the church. I had good Sunday School teachers, a lot of ladies I looked up to. We were having a revival one night. I was at the point in my life that I felt like I was ready to accept the Lord. Nine of us accepted Christ that night.

Q: When and how were you led into your ministry work?

A: I was in the church and as the opportunity arose, if I was asked to do something that I could do, I would do it.

Q: What does your ministry work demand?

A: It is my job to keep the membership and the minutes of meetings. There are reports to make during the year. As far as teaching, I probably spend five or six hours preparing every week.

Q: What do you get from your ministry work?

A: It was always a delight to help the children continue their knowledge of God’s Word. It is a blessing to me to know I’m doing what I feel like the Lord wants me to do.

Q: How do family members support you?

A: I’ve always been supported by all my family members.

Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?

A: As long as I feel like it’s God’s will and as long as I’m healthy I’ll be active in the church.

Q: What difference will this ministry work make for you in the future?

A: It will give me the joy of looking back and thinking about what I have done for the Lord and wishing I could keep on going.

Q: What difference has Jesus Christ made in your life?

A: A lot. Like the song we sing, “Without Him, I’d surely fail.” Where would I be today without Jesus Christ as my Savior? He really is my inspiration. I will always be aware of the sacrifice He made for me. I am daily aware of the peace He brings to me.
