Q: What influences in your life pointed you to Christ at the beginning of your faith journey?
A: I’m blessed to say I’ve been surrounded by a long line of faithful believers. My parents and grandparents have had me in church since the beginning. I have been surrounded by people who showed me what love is. I became a believer at the age of 11 at Randolph Baptist. In college God revealed to me that He wanted me to start seeking Him solely.
Q: When and how were you led into your ministry work?
A: I’ve always been drawn to children. I know that is a desire God put in my heart. … In college … Mrs. Connie Hale asked me to come along beside her and work with her during Older Children’s Music Week at Shocco Springs several summers. She was my mentor and showed me what children’s ministry should look like and feel like.
Q: What does your ministry work demand?
A: Anything you do for the Lord … demands preparation and time and studying God’s Word.
Q: What do you get from your ministry work?
A: First and foremost, I get a closer relationship with my Heavenly Father. I have to seek God’s direction in everything. The ministry work blesses me with so many special relationships with people — with children, with parents, with the ministry team.
Q: How do family members support you?
A: My husband volunteers beside me … and I involve my three kids. … They help me know if the lessons were effectively taught to them. My mom (Sherry Brown) is my sidekick at any event.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I feel this heavy weight on my heart that this is my missions field right now. The children He allows me to serve at church and at school are my missions field right now.
Q: What difference will this ministry work make for you in the future?
A: Children are our future. If we train them up in the way they should go, they will not depart from it. … Jesus is going to make a difference through them for our future.
