How grateful we are for God-given spiritual liberty about which we are to be eternally vigilant. How thankful Alabama Baptists can be for Christian leaders like the president of our state convention and the editor of our state paper who seek to cope evenly with controversial issues.
On Tuesday night, April 16, PBS’ “For the Record” aired views of Alabama’s Reverend Dr. Mel Deason and those of Texas Judge Paul Pressler- an outsider who seemingly dismisses all who disagree with him as liberal heretics.
For the record, our household endorses conservative fundamentals of soul competency before God, priesthood of the believer, local church autonomy, separation of Church and State, and other non-creedal concepts embraced by Hershel Hobbs in his lifetime.
In the words of Dr. Hobbs, “If eternal vigilance is the price of freedom, it is especially true of religious liberty.” Happily we are free to seek divine guidance without human intervention and threats of either license or legalism.
We need no outside help. The Holy Spirit within is all we need to be productive in the local vineyard.
