Spring Bank Baptist Church, Silas, celebrated its bicentennial anniversary Oct. 12, beginning with a celebration service featuring a slide show of photos and special music by Jayden Waite and Riley Pitts and the southern gospel group Deliverance from the University of Mobile.
Following a brief intermission, Susan Walker, a commissioner for the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented a commemorative plaque with Steve Marcereau, deacon chair, and pastor Brian Walley accepting on behalf of the church. Walley also read letters of commendation. Justin Olvey, a former pastor and now director of missions for West Cullman Baptist Association, was the guest preacher. Hannon Hill and James Williams shared what the church means to them. Lunch was served in the fellowship hall. Everyone was invited to ring the old church bell outside in honor of deceased church members.
