Nearly 150 church secretaries gathered at Judson College in Marion April 22–25 for the 45th annual conference of the Alabama Association of Baptist Secretaries (AABS).
Attendees had six scheduled times for special-interest conferences and chose from 22 different offerings, including "how-to" workshops for programs like Microsoft Excel and ADX.
The computer-related sessions are always very popular and are one of the main reasons churches encourage their secretaries to attend, according to Toni Crews of New Temple Baptist Church, Dora, in Sulphur Springs Baptist Association and outgoing AABS president.
Other well-attended sessions were conferences on finances and taxes and dealing with difficult people, led by Bobby DuBois and Dale Huff of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, respectively.
In addition to the breakout sessions and conferences, the secretaries attended daily worship sessions led by women’s conference speaker Ivy Helms of Woodstock, Ga., and heard devotions led by Wayne Shelton, pastor of New Temple Baptist.
Charlie Martin, minister of music at Calvary Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, in Tuscaloosa Baptist Association, and Frank Jones, assistant minister of music at Calvary Baptist, led worship. (JC)
