Alabama Baptists will serve in strategic roles at this year’s Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) annual meeting in Indianapolis June 10–11, and some will continue that service during the next few years on a SBC committee or board.
SBC President Frank Page has named members of the Credentials Committee, Committee on Committees and Tellers Committee for the annual meeting:
– David Patty, director of missions for Sand Mountain Baptist Association, will serve on the Credentials Committee.
– Lawrence Phipps, senior pastor of Vaughn Forest Baptist Church, Montgomery, and Mike Shaw, pastor of First Baptist Church, Pelham, will serve on the Committee on Committees.
– Joe Bob Mizzell of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM) and pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church, Marion, and Daniel Wilson, pastor of Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church, Homewood will serve on the Tellers Committee.
Alabamians nominated to serve on a committee or board:
– Mitchell E. Gavin, a member of First Baptist Church, Alexander City — Executive Committee, second term.
– Robert E. Jackson, pastor of Central Baptist Church, Decatur, and G. Lance Hogan, pastor of First Baptist Church, Enterprise — International Mission Board, expiring 2012.
– Charles C. "Craig" Carlisle, pastor of Twelfth Street Baptist Church, Gadsden — LifeWay Christian Resources, expiring 2012.
– John C. Thweatt, pastor of First Baptist Church, Pell City — Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, expiring 2013.
– Donald E. Setser, member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church, Mobile — New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, expiring 2013.
Other Alabama Baptists are also set to participate in the annual meeting’s program and its surrounding events.
– Junior Hill, evangelist from Hartselle, will preach during the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists’ annual retreat June 7.
– Sammy Gilbreath of the SBOM will share a testimony during the evangelists’ Sunday morning worship service June 8. (BP)
