Steele Baptist celebrates 175th anniversary

Steele Baptist Church in St. Clair Baptist Association celebrated its 175th anniversary Aug. 15–16, beginning with a morning parade followed by a cookout at Steele City Park. Participants then traveled to the church to view historical photos of the church. Also on display were Sunday School class scrapbooks, photo albums and various memorabilia items. A musical celebration followed in the sanctuary.

On Aug. 16 the anniversary celebration was held in conjunction with the church’s annual homecoming and memorial day. The worship service kicked off at 10 a.m. with the ringing of the church bell. More than 170 people participated in Sunday’s event.

Lonette Berg, executive director of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented the church with a plaque and former staff members, pastors and church members were recognized. Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, was guest speaker.

After a covered-dish lunch in the fellowship hall, special music was provided by the church choir.
