The University of Mobile (UMobile) will set the stage for the launch of International Justice Mission’s (IJM) 5 Weeks for Freedom campaign — a 1,800-mile bicycle tour along the Underground Railroad to raise awareness and funds for IJM’s work to combat modern-day slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of injustice.
The public is invited to June 26 events in Ram Hall on the UMobile campus. These include
• a concert by UMobile student Kyle Fredicks and the rock group The Wrecking at 6:30 p.m.
• a screening of the “rockumentary” Call + Response at 8:30 p.m. This film takes viewers to where slavery is thriving, from the child brothels of Cambodia to the slave brick kilns of rural India, and reveals that in one year, slave traders made more money than Google, Nike and Starbucks combined.
June 26 events also will feature appearances by the riders who will cycle to bring awareness of slavery to the historic Underground Railroad from Mobile to Buffalo, N.Y.
