Survey: Most Americans believe Bible is relevant

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Eighty-six percent of Americans believe the Bible is relevant today, but two-thirds of them think their local newspaper is easier to read than the holy Book, a survey has found.

The survey, commissioned by Zondervan Publishing House, found that 80 percent of respondents believe the Bible can address most or all of today’s problems. More than half of the adults surveyed said the Bible is likely to be more accurate than a history book or a local newspaper.

“We were energized and somewhat surprised to learn that such a large majority of Americans said that biblical lessons can significantly impact their lives,” said Tom Mockabee, executive vice president and publisher of Zondervan Bible Group, a division of the Christian publishing company based in Grand Rapids, Mich.
