I love stories — hearing people tell them, writing them, reading them. I’m pretty sure I always will.
But over the past couple of years, as I’ve been behind the wheel of my car more, I’ve fallen in love with hearing stories in a different format — the serial-style podcast where a story is told over multiple episodes. They reel me in and keep me there for hours. They’re told in the subjects’ own voices, with narration in between, along with audio that makes you feel like you’re there, like you know the people.
You go along with the narrator on a ride — you discover things as they do, and there’s suspense and a lot of twists and turns.
I love it.
And now we’d like to invite you to experience a story that way with us.
Our new Stories podcast released its first episode this past Friday, the first installment of the Sammy Gilbreath story. It unfolds the story of our beloved longtime state evangelism director, a man with tales so tall it’s almost hard to believe they happened. The second episode comes out this Friday, Feb. 26, and the final one the following Friday.
In the months to come, we’ll release more stories and let you know ahead of time when they’re coming.
But for this one, you’ll journey through the twists and turns — and risks — of Sammy’s life. I’ll take you with me as I go to his house and talk to him and his wife, Carol, about his should-be-fatal medical condition, his could’ve-been-fatal skydive and the unbelievable things God has done in and around him over the years.
You’ll have to hear them to believe them.
And we hope you will.
