The Blue Law

The Blue Law

For several years I have restrained from spending any money on Sundays. That includes buying gas, going to the restaurant or stopping by the grocery store.

I think if all Christians would stop shopping and dining on Sundays, it would force most businesses to close or at least cut down on the help required to work. There are many people that could go to church if they didn’t have to work serving meals to church-going people.

I think we Christians have gotten too far from God’s laws. We tend to make exceptions and overlook things that make it easier on us. And we wonder why our youth don’t respect God. How can they, when they see us causing other people to work just to make it easier on us?

I think it is time our ministers stood up in the congregations and condemned shopping on Sundays. That would include dinning out. We have gotten so far from what the Bible teaches that if Paul, John or Peter could come back at this time, I dare say they would not even recognize the church as being the body of Christ.

When alcohol or gambling is at issue, all denominations band together to fight it, which I think is great. But why stop there? Why not take a stand on what used to be called the Blue Laws?
