The first song — the first longing — off the debut album by The Longing enters the ears with the same infectious quickening of U2, or even a Coldplay, hit and the emotional grandeur of the ’80s classic “We Are the World.”

From there, things pretty much snowball into a thousand hallelujahs.

Ten of the 12 songs are glittering New Testament soundscapes written or co-written by Jason Ingram, son of Walk Thru the Bible’s Chip Ingram and a contemporary Christian music vet with more hits to his name than Google.

Rebecca St. James, Bebo Norman, Avalon, Matthew West, Point of Grace and SONICFLOOd are just of the few of the artists who have tapped into Ingram’s songwriting, and this record leaves little doubt as to why. Simply put, “The Longing” is modern-rock worship perfection. The rocks and the trees can take a breather.
