The Lord’s Supper

The Lord’s Supper

Below is an article that I feel needs to come to our pastors to remind them of the need to conduct the Lord’s Supper in such a way that God will bless it to the hearts of God’s people.

We often visit in other churches, and I’m amazed at the lack of reverence and lack of teaching that is given to one of the holiest services God has given to His body, the Church. I believe God has given the Lord’s Supper to bring revival to the church each time they partake of it. Please read the following information and see if it can be used of the Lord to bring a new emphasis to the serving and participating in the Lord’s Supper:

“The Lord’s Supper: One of God’s Blessings of Revival for the Church”

The Lord’s Supper is one of the greatest gifts for revival that God has given to His body, the Church. However, we have often stripped the Lord’s Supper of its power and importance in our churches. Paul rebuked the church for taking the Lord’s Supper in an unworthy manner. The early believers came to church and ate and drank as if the Lord’s Supper was for their own pleasure.

Today, because we have plenty of food, we don’t desecrate the Lord’s Supper as the early church did, but have we minimized the holiness and reverence for the Lord’s Supper and therefore taken it in an unworthy manner? …

Paul warns the church in 1 Corinthians 11:27 that those who take the Lord’s Supper in an unworthy manner are under God’s judgment. It is so sad when this teaching is either left out or barely mentioned. Paul taught us that we must first examine ourselves before God in regards to our sins.

The sins of the flesh, such as unforgiveness, lack of love, disobedience, lack of commitment or attitudes that hurt the body such as backbiting, gossip or any sin that separates us from God, should be dealt with before we take the Lord’s Supper. We must be taught that if we eat and drink at His table without repentance, we bring judgment to ourselves.

There needs to be a time of preparation of the heart before we take the Lord’s Supper. We need to have a time of confession before God, asking His forgiveness and asking others’ forgiveness if we have offended them or someone has offended us before we partake of the Lord’s Supper. If we truly do this, there will be revival with each observance of the Lord’s Supper.

It is so sad for us to “tack on” the Lord’s Supper at the end of a service and quickly serve it so we can go home. No wonder we often have weak, sickly churches with so little power.

The Lord’s Supper is so precious and powerful when we administer it in the correct way. Let us as Christians recommit ourselves to giving priority to serving and partaking with dignity and reverence one of the holiest services in our churches.
