James Troglen is someone you should know. In addition to serving as pastor of First Baptist Church, Wetumpka, he is a member of the board of directors for The Alabama Baptist.
Q: Why have you done this activity?
A: It came unexpectedly and I still do not know who nominated me to serve. I accepted the challenge to serve even though I did not know what was going to be asked of me.
Q: What does serving on this board demand?
A: I attend two board of directors meetings where the editor presents his reports and recommendations to the body for consideration. I also serve on one or two committees of the board such as personnel, editor’s advisory or such which meet several times a year to address issues brought to them by the editor and staff or aid in budget preparation.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: A: It would be good to serve as director again in the future, but there are so many good Alabama Baptists who can serve as directors. I do see myself as being a continuing, passionate advocate for our paper on a private level, in the association or anywhere else I am given a chance. The information The Alabama Baptist gives us is solid, balanced and accurate and from a Baptist perspective. We need this in our churches and laymen’s lives.
Q: What difference will serving in this position make for you in the future?
A: It certainly will make me more sensitive to issues outside of my own church and aware of the state convention as a whole, where we are going and what we are doing. My prayer life will include The Alabama Baptist and our agencies with more fervor than before. I see with a broader vision than I did before and see the impact my church can make on a state level.
