BORNO STATE, Nigeria — Two more of the 276 females abducted eight years ago from a girls’ school in Nigeria have been located.
The recovery of the two women and their children resulted from the Nigerian Army’s operations against terrorists in Borno State, reported the relief group Barnabas Fund.
Yana Pogu and her four children were found Sept. 29 in Mairari village in Bama Local Government Area. On Oct. 2, Rejoice Sanki and her two children were located in Kawuri in Konduga Local Government Area.
Rescue efforts continue
In April 2014, the Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram kidnapped 276 females — teens at the time and mostly Christians — from Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok. Since then, about 167 have either escaped, been released or rescued.
Some of the freed women report their captors whipped them to force them into marriage. They also said some Christian girls who refused to become Muslim were subjected to a mock execution.
This summer army operations recovered five women and their children, Barnabas Fund reported.
Nigeria is No. 7 on Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian. Nigeria leads the world in the number of Christians abducted or killed for their faith.
