UM receives $125,000 grant for chemistry lab

The University of Mobile (UM) has been awarded a $125,000 grant from the Hearin-Chandler Foundation to renovate the university’s organic chemistry laboratory.

"We appreciate the Hearin-Chandler Foundation’s investment in the University of Mobile. This grant will directly impact students who will one day make a difference in the lives of people in this community and the world through their contributions in the health care and science-related fields," said Mark Foley, president of UM.

UM’s current organic chemistry lab was installed in October 1984 for a school of only 500 students. This year, more than 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled.

The grant will provide for the complete overhaul of the lab and installation of contemporary scientific instrumentation.

The Hearin-Chandler Foundation is an independent, private foundation established in 1963 and located in Mobile. (UM)
