Valley Grove Baptist Church, Danville, marked its 75th anniversary Oct. 21, 2012, with an 11 a.m. worship service.
The service included music as well as testimonials from church members on what the Muscle Shoals Baptist Association church has meant to them. Pastor Wayne Turner delivered the sermon, and a representative from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission presented a commemorative plaque for Valley Grove Baptist to church member Willard Cole. Cole also led the singing during the worship service, Turner said. Margie Buttons, a former church clerk who also served as a pianist for the church, was recognized. Turner’s wife, Brenda, also was recognized for her years of service to Valley Grove. Turner estimated between 120 and 130 people attended the anniversary celebration.
Jim Fiscus, assistant pastor for Old Town Creek Baptist Church, Moulton, then sang for everyone in the sanctuary after lunch. “(He) did a wonderful job,” Turner said.
Turner said his vision for the future of Valley Grove is one of continued growth and that people would continue to be saved.
