NEW DELHI, India — Gospel for Asia (GFA) reports that an entire village of 500 people in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu recently converted to Christianity. Despite Tamil Nadu’s restrictive anti-conversion law, the people of the village, most of them Dalits, decided to convert from their native Hinduism to Christianity. Dalits are members of India's lowest social caste and are often discriminated against for jobs and housing because of their low stature. However, there is a widespread movement among the millions of Dalits in India to leave Hinduism and the caste system and convert to other religions, including Buddhism, Islam and Christianity. Even anti-conversion laws will not stop the search for Christ, said K.P. Yohannan, president and founder of Gospel for Asia.
What happened in this village in Tamil Nadu is just a snapshot of the many ways in which God is working as this Dalit awakening takes place throughout India, the ministry reported. GFA national missionaries and pastors disciple new Christians and establish church fellowships where they can worship.
