Brent Baptist Church
Recently I attended a pastors conference.
While there, I was challenged to see “the greatness of our calling and the greatness of the lost in need of Jesus.” The challenge gripped my soul to think that God would use someone like me to tell others about His saving grace. I left the conference moved and encouraged in my ministry. As I boarded my flight home, my heart was full, my body was tired and I was looking forward to a restful journey. However, God had one more conference session that He wanted me to attend.
Seated across the aisle from me was a soldier. He was full of energy and dressed for battle. I sat there studying his uniform, his mannerisms, his boots, and then I studied his face. We engaged in conversation and the more we talked, the more the joy of the Lord exuded from his body.
He began to quote Scriptures from memory and tell me about Jesus. Verse by verse, he poured into me about how vast, wide and deep God’s love is for me — even as a pastor. It was evident he knew God because he knew His Word. It was not just quoted from memory; it was written upon his heart. He encouraged me to preach the gospel, and in “that great calling God put upon my life,” I was reminded to tell others over and over “that if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Rom. 10:9). As my new friend sat there prepared for battle, I could see that he had taken up the full armor of God because he had the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
So friend, with all exuberance, I ask you today do you want to know God? I implore you to read Romans 10:9 and simply “confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead.”
I then encourage you to write God’s Word upon your heart by memorizing and meditating upon it. His Word is filled with awesome promises. Lastly I encourage you to share with someone how God has changed your heart.
