A military man, an engineer, a pastor, a director of missions — these are just a few of the things Michael Olewski, Washington Baptist Association’s director of missions (DOM), has done over the years. He will retire from his DOM role Dec. 31.
Olewski, a Florida native, served in the Army in the 1960s and later graduated from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. He then earned his master of divinity degree and doctorate from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Olewski worked as an engineer for 15 years prior to serving as pastor of First Baptist Church, Luverne; Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Millry; and Handsboro Baptist Church, Gulfport, Mississippi.
As a pastor he said the Lord has taught him a lot about people to “help him deal with most situations. The Lord has mellowed me over the years and now I handle situations with a bit more grace than I once did.”
He and his wife, Eileen, have two children and two grandchildren and will move to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, after retirement to be closer to the grandchildren.
