What’s in a Name?

What’s in a Name?

A Christian, evangelical, born again, recycled or whatever type of person is one who never has to say he or she is sorry. Christ is not sorry for His sacrifice, and we should not be sorry for our own.

What sacrifice? Dying to self, taking up our cross daily, experiencing the fellowship of Christ’s suffering, giving up our will, forsaking any and all who would cause us to stumble, becoming crucified for Him, working out our own salvation with fear and trembling.

“Oh, but Jesus never said or expects this of us.” Yes, He did and He does. The problem with many professing Christians is we lack understanding, and we lack understanding because we fail to study Scripture. Other than the weekly or bimonthly spoon-feeding of the Word offered by others, we fail to earnestly seek the instruction of the Holy Spirit, and we fall into the misguided assumption that all is well because we profess Christ is Lord. This is not enough.

One day, every tongue will confess the same. Since all are saved by grace through faith, faith is required of us and faith makes us accountable.

Once saved always saved? Platitudes will do nothing for us when tested against what Jesus has said.

“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.”

When the time comes, we may be truly sorry, but it will be truly too bad.
