About a year and a half ago, Acton Bowen published a book. Then things started happening. “I had all kinds of opportunities to go to TV interviews, and one landed me at TCT (Total Christian Television),” said Bowen, youth pastor of CrossPoint Community Church, Gadsden, in Etowah Baptist Association.
While he was there, the network — which is available on Direct TV, Comcast, Charter and other major carriers — started talking to him about opportunities for his youth group. “They knew we had been podcasting for a while, and they said, ‘Hey we’re expanding our shows to include teen programming,’” Bowen explained.
Then came the big question: Would CrossPoint like to broadcast its youth worship service every Sunday night to every city in America and 170 countries worldwide — 125 million homes total? The answer was a resounding yes. Upon hearing the news, the church got busy renovating the youth worship center, redoing the stage and adding high-definition TV screens and updated lighting. On May 24, CrossPoint did a dry run of the show, called “x|roadsTV” (Crossroads TV). Broadcasting is set to start this month.
“We felt like this was a God-sized opportunity that came from just being where we were,” Bowen said. “Best we can tell, we’ll be the first student ministry to have worldwide coverage weekly. We’re really excited and humbled by the opportunity.” (TAB)
