Alabama Baptists ‘encouraged us’

Jorge Pastor, pastor of Denia Baptist Church and president of the Baptist Union of Spain said, “The Alabama people blessed us so much. I cry when I think the partnership is over.

“Alabama Baptists helped u and encouraged us to witness on the streets,” he said. “It was a great impact to know people from Alabama were coming to help us and to know that we are not alone.

“They were always very prepared and very open,” he noted. “The experience with Alabama helped open many doors with the churches that were not open to a partnership.

“Alabama Baptists also helped us with discipleship programs and materials from LifeWay in Spanish,” Pastor said.

“It was so good with Alabama, because the Lord was in the middle of it,” he added. “It was also successful because of the close relations between Reggie (Quimby, who served as a missionary to Spain for 12 years and is now with the State Board of Missions), Manuel (Sarrias, general secretary for the Baptist Union) and me.”

Pastor also cited the difference he said was made by Troy Morrison, retired executive director of the SBOM; Harrell Cushing, retired director of stewardship of the SBOM; and Rick Lance, executive director of the SBOM.

“They are very humble people,” Pastor said. “They treated us like people, and we connected.”

While the partnership officially ended, “the prayers will continue,” Pastor said. “I have names of several Alabama Baptists that I pray for every day. And a group of 50 from my church are fasting and praying people from Alabama,” he said.

“We are praying for Alabama, for revival in Alabama, for the leaders of the convention and for the pastors of the churches,” he said.

“We are praying for Alabama, for revival in Alabama, for the leaders of the convention and for the pastors of the churches,” he said. “We planted the seeds of many relations between churches in Alabama and Spain that will never end.
