“The state has improved in some child well-being data points, yet child poverty has remained unchanged for the last 20 years,” said Apreill Hartsfield, Alabama Kids Count director for VOICES.
The Education Recovery Scorecard, developed by researchers from Harvard, Stanford and Dartmouth universities, indicates that Alabama has returned to pre-pandemic levels in math and is nearing that milestone in reading.
Westside Baptist in Tuscumbia lost its steeple when an EF-1 tornado ripped through the city late Feb. 15. Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers were at work in that city and ready to help elsewhere, including Kentucky and Tennessee.
