As biblical literacy decreases, children’s ministry events like VBS give churches an opportunity to lay a spiritual foundation in the lives of those who attend and offer a valuable outreach to families in the community.
“We also want kids and families to have a deeper love for God’s Word. For many of us, God’s Word is an afterthought when it should be our lifeblood,” said Dave Ray.

Under the Alabama Literacy Act, third graders are required to demonstrate they can read well enough to advance to fourth grade.
Alberton Baptist Church, Kinston, will host Vacation Bible School June 22–27, Sunday 5–7:30 p.m. and Monday through Friday 6–8:30 p.m.
“I kept thinking about how the next generation doesn’t understand the Cooperative Program,” said Belinda Stroud, a children’s ministry specialist for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.
