“Vacation Bible School isn’t just for kids — teens and adults need to meet Jesus too,” said Patty Burns, VBS strategist for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.
“I never knew how I could establish such a bond with people that I never laid eyes on before and how much we could love each other in Christ like I do with these girls,” Debra Cross said.
“This is a missions field, so just like any missions field, when the gospel really takes root is when people there take it for themselves and run with it — where leaders are raised up and there’s a church there,” Taunton said.
John Gibson said Serving You Ministries in Birmingham — which offers food and financial assistance — has been looking toward opening a second site for a couple of years now.
Alabaster’s Westwood Baptist Church and Westwood en Español congregations see themselves as partners in a mission to reach their community, something that was illustrated by their joint baptisms in the creek in Montevallo this year.
