First Baptist Church, Frisco City, kicked off its centennial Oct. 28, 2012, with a meet and greet before its anniversary worship service.
The festivities began in the church’s Family Activities Center at 9:15 a.m., where displays were set up for attendees to browse and introductions of special guests and the sharing of testimonies took place. Faye Taylor was recognized as the longest-attending member of the Bethlehem Baptist Association church.
The program then transitioned to the sanctuary at 10:30 a.m., where the Sims Family began the service by providing instrumental music. According to Audrey Jackson, chair of the centennial committee and music director for First, Frisco City, the congregation sang hymns that were popular during the beginning years of the church and connected them with modern songs. Jackson said former music ministers of the church led this portion of the service.
Lonette Berg, executive director of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented a plaque to the church, and a group photo was taken of the entire congregation.
The worship service featured a sermon by Pastor Mark McCullough’s son, Matthew McCullough, who serves as a pastor in Nashville.
Matthew McCullough shared about “What Faithful Churches Do: A Beautiful Legacy.” Jackson said descendants of charter members also were recognized during the service. An anniversary lunch and a special concert followed.
Mark McCullough noted the church’s excitement for the future and acknowledged its legacy and long line of pastors who have been faithful to the Word. “I’m just particularly grateful for the heritage that was highlighted by the celebration … and the strong foundation the church had from the outset,” he said.
