Former Alabama Baptist Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) president Stuart Calvert died Jan. 15. She was 78.
Calvert served Alabama WMU as president from 2001 to 2005.
“Stuart was the leader at a very important time with Alabama WMU,” said Candace McIntosh, executive director of Alabama WMU. “She led as the organization changed leadership. Stuart was a woman of great wisdom, discernment, grace and encouragement. All across our state are women whose lives were changed by her leadership and presence.”
Calvert also served as a representative on the Alabama WMU board of trustees from 1999 to 2001 and 2005 to 2007. She served on the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions during her presidency. She most recently was serving on the board of The Alabama Baptist newspaper.
Calvert earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisville in Kentucky.
She is survived by her husband, Bob, who is senior pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Albertville; three children and seven grandchildren.
