Bryan Gill, an author and an administrator at Samford University, has released his newest book, “Jesus Is: A 31-Day Devotional on the ‘I Am’ Statements of Jesus.”
“This 31-day journey through these seven ‘I Am’ statements is going to be one that I think you’re going to enjoy, you’re going to grow closer to God … and fall more in love with Jesus and what He was trying to teach us when He said these seven statements,” said Gill, who leads the faith and learning initiative at Samford.
The book looks at each of Jesus’ seven “I Am” statements found in John — such as “I am the bread of life” and “I am the light of the world” — and explores how they would have been heard by the original audience. Seeing what the statements originally meant helps followers of Jesus know how to apply them to their lives today, Gill said.
Gill’s other works
Gill has previously co-authored a number of books on faith, including “How to Be a Man” with Andy Blanks, which also has a three-book student series. He has also written “Fireside Tales for Christmas” and the Southern suspense novel “The Devils in Alabama.”
His podcast, The Storied Outdoors, which he co-hosts with Brad Hill, passed the 100-episode mark in November. Gill describes The Storied Outdoors as “somewhere between Lewis and Tolkien and Lewis and Clark,” where he gets to share his own reflections as well as the untold stories of others’ adventures in the outdoors.
