Thank you for the article “Evangelicals question Beck’s message, agenda” in The Alabama Baptist on Sept. 16. Thank you, Dr. Richard Land and Bishop Harry Jackson, for your positive response to Mr. Beck’s Aug. 28 rally. It was disheartening to read the other professing Christians’ references to Mr. Beck’s message as “scandalous” and to his views as “the latest political whim.” Few God-believing Americans speak out in the secular public arena. With so much atheism, negativism and anti-Christian values prominently displayed 24/7 in our media, why can we not accept and appreciate, even commend, a man who speaks for restoring honor, human rights, patriotism and godly principles? Is there jealousy, fear or just a need for attention that brings such criticism and lack of respect to a man of character? When have you who are so critical ever rented The Kennedy Center or any other public place with your own funds for a “divine” gathering, praying for divine guidance?
I listen to Glenn Beck daily and have never heard him refer to Mormonism. Even if he did, what do we fear? Are we not strong enough in our own faith to listen and learn?
You who find time to criticize Glenn Beck, why are you not speaking out louder against those who would tear down our nation, corrupt our schools and undercut our religious liberty? Our narrow-mindedness as Southern Baptists is leading people away from our faith and message. God forgive us.
