The past eight years, it has been a privilege to serve our Lord and Southern Baptists as a trustee of the International Mission Board (IMB). These eight years have passed quickly, and I dreaded seeing the day that my tenure would end.
I have enjoyed working with the trustees, including those who are now on the board and those who have rotated off the board during these eight years. We have had some great leadership from our chairmen and officers to whom I am grateful. When I think of all that God through us has accomplished, I give thanks and praise to Him. He had chosen to work through us though we were imperfect and sometimes weak. Yet He never gave up on us. It is not about us but about His enabling grace and exalted glory. Never have I been more optimistic about the future of Southern Baptists reaching to the ends of earth than I am today.
Our IMB president, Dr. Jerry Rankin, and staff have proven themselves over and over that they are passionate in reaching a lost world with the glorious gospel of our Lord. We are blessed to have the greatest missions movement on this earth led by these dedicated servants of God.
Our missions personnel are the greatest in the world. They are committed to push back the darkness with the light of the gospel of our Lord Jesus and are doing what has never been done before in modern history.
The greatest privilege that I had as a trustee was being on the missions personnel committee, where I was involved in the screening process of the candidates.
We are blessed to have this missions force on the fields around the world.
Thank you, Alabama Baptists and Southern Baptists, for giving me the privilege of serving you as an IMB trustee.
