Thanks for the timely article “A ‘Golden’ Resource.” As a Baptist minister, I have spent countless hours in the enlistment and training of laity for many volunteer positions that fill the average Baptist church’s organizational chart. It is very easy to lose sight of the fact that volunteerism goes beyond our local churches.
Because of the pressure ministers feel to fill positions, we often overlook opportunities to fill the servant role in organizations.
I have been working with volunteers at HealthSouth Metro West Hospital. It has been an eye-opening experience to learn of the Christian commitment that motivates volunteers in hospitals.
It is thrilling to hear dozens of volunteers testify of having fulfillment as they touch lives through hospital volunteer work.
