Your Bible is your dashboard to life. You know, like the dashboard in your car.
That panel just behind the steering wheel makes you aware of pretty much every looming problem with your vehicle. Got a tire losing pressure? An icon lights up to bring it to your attention. Seatbelt unfastened? Door ajar? Fuel running low? Engine temperature running high? Due for an oil change? Most modern cars have indicators to warn you of any impending danger. Some even tell you if you’re driving too fast or wandering out of your lane. Your dashboard is designed to keep you safe.

The Bible does the same thing. It is your warning light for avoiding sin. Are you feeling as though no one understands your problems? First Corinthians pops up on your spiritual display and tells you, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind.”
Having trouble resisting sin?
Feel like giving up?
Here comes another 1 Corinthians light flashing: “ … when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
Starting to get too obsessed with money and worldly possessions? First Timothy confronts you with a caution: “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.”
Are troubles taking you to the verge of depression and despair? Here comes an icon from James to adjust your perspective: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.”
Getting a bit too self-centered?
A verse from Luke can help nip it in the bud: “For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Do you tend to resent the success and achievement of others? Before it detours you off the spiritual highway, the Bible lets you know, “You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly?”
And there are many more. You would be foolish to ignore a warning light on your car dashboard. It would be equally foolish to ignore the cautions in the word of God. So put on your turn signal and head into your Bible every day.
It will always get you safely to your destination.
