Missionaries Write

Thank you so much for the vital part you play in the ministry to the poor of Caracas. God is indeed answering prayers and blessing the work. Decisions for Christ are being made. Believers are being discipled and the Lord is being glorified. Please join us as we pray for the following needs:

Praise the Lord that two men have recently joined our Bible studies, and one has already accepted Christ.

Pray for David, an elderly new believer, who has been waiting in the hospital for three weeks for an operation he urgently needs.

Pray for new team member Diane Brown as she participates in missionary strategy orientation.

Pray for the four members of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church who have committed to spend every Saturday working with us in the barrios.

Pray for Germania, a new believer whose husband has left her.

Pray for the seminary students who are working with us leading Bible studies.

Pray for the completion of discipleship material.

Pray for the Lord to provide two short-term missionaries to work in sports evangelism in the barrios.

Pray for Li Ling and her husband. They have both recently accepted Christ and now must move out of town. Pray they will find Christian fellowship in their new home.

Pray for the weekly Bible studies. Pray that those who have not made decisions will see their need for the Savior.

Pray for the family conferences to begin this month in an elementary school in Petare. Pray these will lead to home Bible studies.

Pray for our search for a Venezuelan missionary couple to work with us full time in Petare.

Pray for the Engles and the Bethunes as they finish their last weeks of language school and prepare for their move to Venezuela.

We are on the eve of another women’s meeting. Since the last meeting, I have had the opportunity to walk twice with Jolanta developing a relationship. Today she asked when we would be going on furlough. I responded, “June 3.” She exclaimed, “Oh, no that means just two more women’s meetings after this one.” I was grateful to reassure her the meetings would continue in my absence. There is a single missionary, Fran, with Campus Crusade who will be returning to Latvia this month and living in our house while we are on furlough. She wants to work with our mission church. And she is willing to continue the women’s meetings here at my house offering leadership where she can. Isn’t it neat how God has worked this all out?

I did get an opportunity to talk with Gunta. However, I am not certain we totally communicated. She told me she had made a decision for Christ earlier. I can only hope and pray that is the case.

I am eagerly awaiting this meeting. On Monday night Linda, who comes for short periods of time with her husband (he teaches at the Riga Bible Institute) to Latvia, gave me a call. Inara had invited her to our meeting on Saturday. She asked if she could also invite a Latvian doctor she had met on the airplane.

Pray for sensitivity to the Holy Spirit as I complete my preparations. Ligita will be leading the “ice breaker” discussion time. I have others who will read Scripture and pray. Pray for the Holy Spirit to speak to the hearts of these women who don’t know the Lord. Pray they will accept Him as personal Savior.
