Rainer to retire after 31 years in music ministry

Ron Rainer, who served in ministry for 43 years in Alabama, will retire from full-time music ministry Dec. 15 from First Baptist Church, Cordele, Ga. 

Rainer, a native of Union, Miss., has served as the minister of music and worship at First, Cordele, since 2007, and will move to Birmingham in his retirement.

He felt called into music ministry while singing in the youth choir and playing trumpet at First Baptist Church, Union, Miss.

Rainer graduated from Samford University in Birmingham and attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. 

While at Samford, he served Vineland Park Baptist Church, Hueytown (1969–1971). He later served in music ministry at Hillwood Baptist Church, Huntsville (1977–1981), Eastern Hills Baptist Church, Montgomery (1981–1988) and Central Baptist Church, Decatur (1988–2006). He also served churches in Texas, Mississippi, Florida and Georgia.  

He and his wife, Debby, have four children and 13 grandchildren.
