Jacobo Garcia, secretary of evangelism and missions for the Venezuela Baptist Convention, delivered a message stressing the power of the Holy Spirit.
Garcia appeared on the program as a part of the emphasis on the partnership between Venezuelan and Alabama Baptists.
“It’s a marvelous thing how the Word of our Lord can speak to our hearts,” Garcia said via Jim Oliver, a former missionary to Venezuela who served as interpreter.
Garcia chose Acts 1:8 as the passage from which he spoke. Although God has called Christians to go “even to the uttermost part of the earth,” Garcia cautioned people not to attempt this without the Holy Spirit.
“The work of missions can never be done outside of the Holy Spirit,” he said.
“The Holy Spirit completes various ministries among us, various works among all of His children.”
According to Garcia, the most important thing the Holy Spirit does is “to fill every life of the Christian, in order that we might complete the mission of God.”
“Let’s pray tonight that our lives would be completely filled with the Holy Spirit,” he said.
“The Word of God says in the book of Acts, that when the Holy Spirit came to them the Day of Pentecost, they were full, they were inspired, they were moved, and they themselves became the machinery that God used to win the world.
“We would like to be like them,” Garcia continued. “We want to inspire you also from Venezuela. We want to also inspire the Venezuelans. We want to give praise to our God, our Father that our lives will be full of the Holy Spirit.
“And, brother, we shall go out in all the world just like a wonderful machine honoring and telling about our beautiful God,” he said.
“We understand that the work of winning Venezuela is ours,” he said. “We understand that Venezuelans must be the one to win Venezuela.”
Garcia said, “We shall form a great army that no one can stop. And not only in Venezuela, but also in Alabama and other parts of the world, because the Holy Spirit wants to fill all of our hearts at this moment.”
“I want to invite you, I want to inspire you in the power of God, that we unite, that this partnership that we affirm, that this work we have decided to have together will glorify, will bless the name of our Lord,” Garcia said. “Many… will come to know Jesus Christ.” (TAB)
