I have to say I was shocked when I read the editorial “All a Part of the Christmas Story” in the Dec. 20 issue. You not only reference “players” that are not mentioned in the Bible but also describe some of the players incorrectly. For instance, the Bible does not say that Mary rode a donkey. We are only told that she and Joseph went from Nazareth to Bethlehem. While you refer to the stable several times, the Bible only tells us that Jesus was placed in a manger. There are no animals mentioned in the Bible account.
You overlook the angel that announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds but do make reference to the angels that sang. Actually the Bible states that angels began praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the Highest.”
Finally you say the magi’s gifts “were laid before the baby” and later “left on the stable floor.” The Bible says the magi came into the house and saw the Child. The magi did not visit Jesus at the manger.
Perhaps some of your comments are based on “tradition” or the opinions of biblical scholars. But when information is given in the Bible we certainly need to be careful not to contradict what the Bible says.
